The night will feature:

• Musical performances by Ali Smith and Jon Howard
• Readings by: Luis Jaramillo and Roxana Robinson
• Complimentary hors d'oeuvres provided by Macao Trading Co., and alcoholic refreshments.
• A bouquet of special raffle prizes donated by Faina European Day Spa, and more.
• A silent art auction selected by Gawker Artists curator Liz Dimmitt and notorious street artist Billi Kid (PWD) including artwork from Billi Kid, Stefanie Schneider, James and Karla Murray, Jess Levey, Ali Smith, Heather Morgan, Fernanda Cohen, Genevieve Dimmitt, Kenneth E. Event Info

Public Works Department is extremely passionate about graffiti, street art and urban culture. It proudly proclaims that it is not a company, but a sandbox intended for artists to play. Its goal is to provide a canvas for artists to create and experiment in collaboration with brands, curators and given assignments. It functions as a bridge between art and design, vision and execution, exceptional talent and a widening audience.

Billi Kid is an NYC street artist, curator, life-long doodler, art enthusiast, and design junkie. His work blurs the lines between graffiti, pop culture, iconography and art. Never too busy to look, feel and listen, his collaborative works with artists from around the world have been celebrated in both the media and street art community alike. His passion for the streets has led him to curate groundbreaking exhibitions that have helped bridge the gap between urban landscape and the indoor environment.

Gawker Artists is a curated online art community and exhibition program promoting the works of artists in all media. Participating artists receive profile pages on Gawker Artists and are eligible to have their works published in the ad space on Gawker Media titles and included in Gawker Artist sponsored exhibitions. Gawker Artists is curated by sisters, and Genevieve Dimmitt.

An active participant in the NYC art scene, Liz Dimmitt is an advocate for developing mutually beneficial relationships between the arts and business. She has worked as an adventure writer, independent curator, financial advisor, art market analyst, and event planner. She cofounded Gumshoe, a company that caters to art enthusiasts and emerging collectors through educational programming and special events. Dimmitt holds a BA in Finance from Georgetown and a MA in Visual Arts Administration from NYU. She has been curator of Gawker Artists since 2006.

Roxana Robinson is the author of four novels, three collections of short stories, and a biography; four of which were chosen as New York Times 'Notable Books'. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, Vogue, The Boston Globe, The International Herald Tribune, House and Garden and many more. She is also a scholar and essayist of American Painting. Robinson is currently an officer of the PEN Board, and has taught at the University of Houston, Wesleyan University and The New School.

Luis Jaramillo's writing has been published in Open City, Gamers (Soft Skull Press), Tin House Magazine, H.O.W. Journal, and Red Line Blues. He is the Associate Chair of the Writing Program at the New School, where he oversees the undergraduate curriculum, the Riggio Honors Program: Writing & Democracy, teaches courses in fiction and nonfiction, and curates a reading series on food writing.

Ali Smith has performed at Lincoln Center as a ballet dancer and released nine albums and toured the world as a rock musician, though she now works primarily as a photographer. Ali's first book of photography Laws Of The Bandit Queens (Three Rivers Press, 2002) has been called "this generation's quintessential homage to strong, smart, groundbreaking women." A grant from the Puffin Foundation helped enable Ali's work photographing incarcerated mothers and their children, and the resulting photo essay was published in a national magazine. Ali currently teaches photography to teenage girls in New York City's Lower East Side and volunteers in a shelter for teenaged homeless mothers.

Jon Howard played bass in the band Dewey Decibel for more than five years and appears on their album "Unnecessarily Beautiful." He currently works on a variety of projects, playing guitar, bass, and mandolin.

Details: Suggested donation $25; Complimentary Hors D'oeurves & Cocktails; All proceeds will be donated to Partners in Health, a non-profit organization with a strong reputation for providing health care options and advocacy for the poor in Haiti and other parts of the world.

Holiday Party 2009

Funds raised at this event will be used to start an art, music and film-making program for young adults at Safe Space.
